Call to Worship
Welcome! It’s the 3rd Sunday of Advent. As Christmas Day approaches, we celebrate that Christ has come into our dark world and His light shines in and through His people. Let’s look to God’s Word and remember who we worship:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God.
All things were made through him,
and without him was not any thing that was made.
In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

– John 1:1-5, 9, 14

O Come Let Us Adore Him / Behold Our God

Confession / Lament
God is light, and in Him there is no darkness. Christmas announces and exposes our own inability to walk in the light. Take a moment with me to ask God to remind us of our need for Him:

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His Word I hope.
My soul waits for the Lord, more than those who watch for the morning.
There is no darkness with you, O L
O people of God, hope in the LORD!
For with the LORD there is steadfast love, and with him is great redemption.
There is no darkness with you, O LORD.
Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
There is no darkness with you, O LORD.

– based on Psalm 130:5-7

Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah

Assurance of Grace / Passing of Peace
We trust that one day our anxious fears will subside, and the only reason we know that is because of Jesus. In Him, we see a light that can’t be extinguished by the darkness. Read the Word with me and remember:

The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light.
And for those who lived in the land where death cast its shadow,
a light has shined.

– Matthew 4:16 NLT

One day we will all see this great light again, only this time death will never again have its day or a shadow to hide in. There will be no sweeter rest than that Day. Be assured by God’s very Word to us, and assure one another with the peace the gospel brings as you greet your neighbors, brothers, and sisters.

Advent Doxology / Grace Alone / Doxology

May God,
who sent His angels to proclaim the glad news of the Savior’s birth,
fill you with joy and make you heralds of the gospel
and the Savior’s return.

Peace be with you.
And also with you.
