Leadership

Each Redemption Church congregation is led by a team of local elders and staff. The unified body of Redemption (all congregations) is overseen by a Leadership Team.

Jon Demeter

Lead Pastor | Elder
About Jon

I married my best friend Teresa Demeter (affectionately known as Tree) in the summer of 2000. We have 3 kids: Carson, Logan and Ryhan. Both my wife and I grew up in the West Valley and moved back to the area in 2012.

I grew up in and out of church. During my sophomore year in college is when I really turned a corner in my relationship with the Lord. God catapulted my growth with him through a personal discipleship relationship and a community of people that were passionate about their pursuit of Jesus.

After college, my wife and I joined the ministry staff of Athletes in Action in 2002, where we served college and pro athletes for 15 years. I was the Executive Pastor at Redemption Peoria from 2017 to 2021 and then took the Lead Pastor role in 2021.

My hope is all who see me, hear me and experience me would catch a glimpse of him who saved me.

Charles Jones

Pastor of Communities and Connection
About Charles

I grew up with Christian parents and a home revolving around Christ and his church– I’m the son of a pastor and a “seminary baby,” even. I began to seriously walk with Jesus when I was in college. It was then that Jesus’ call to himself became real to me. He has proven himself to be a faithful God who’s changed, and continues to change me, to seek him, serve him, and delight in him in all things.

I’ve been married to my beautiful wife Amanda since 2014 and we have two precious daughters. Both my wife and I were raised in the West Valley and the Lord has made our home here.

We have called Redemption Peoria our church home since its inception; we have suffered through many valleys and shared in many celebrations in this time. I’m humbled and thankful to be a part of the pastoral staff and I’m always excited to meet new people and see how we can serve them.

Summer Wahlstrom

R/Kids Director
About Summer

I gave my heart to Jesus at a young age, and felt called into ministry in high school. My husband, Stephen, and I met at our church youth group in Prescott, got married right out of high school, and moved to Austin to be a part of a church plant. After 10 great years there we felt led back to Arizona.

I am thankful to be part of an amazing church community in Redemption and excited to be on mission in Peoria. I have always loved working with kids and have enjoyed leading this ministry since our church planted in 2013.

I am a mother of two awesome teenage boys and a sweet little girl.

Tracey Regan

R/Kids Volunteer Coordinator
About Tracey

I married my best friend, Brian, at the Jersey shore in the summer of 1997. We’ve had the privilege of raising two amazing young adults, Casey and Jacob. We recently gained the title of Grandparents and are loving every second of it!

Our family has been touched by foster care and adoption in many ways. I was adopted through infant foster care and raised in a loving Christian home. I grew up in a reverent denominational church. I spent summers with family whose faith was an all-in love like Jesus’ witness of the gospel. The Lord called me to Himself at their church in my early twenties. My husband and I entered into the foster care journey in 2000. The Lord continues to transform us, and I am so grateful for a church home with a heart for the orphan.

My passion is families and education. I am currently a special education achievement advisor for Glendale Elementary School District. My family called Redemption Peoria home in the fall of 2015. R/Kids welcomed our group of all abilities from day one. The team has taught me so much. I am constantly encouraged by the hospitality shown in all the classrooms. It is a blessing to serve the families and volunteers of the West Valley.

Elizabeth Ford

Women's Ministry Director
About Elizabeth
As a native Phoenician and committed desert rat, I have deep roots in and a love for the diverse communities in this region.
My late husband, Justin, and I led worship for almost 15 years together at a church in East Phoenix. Afterwards, we led Men’s and Women’s ministries at an inner city church in Tempe for several years before arriving at Redemption Peoria. During that time, we had 2 gorgeous babies, Aubrey and Carson, who are now young adults who love and serve Jesus through their own lives and ministries.
I was a homemaker for 13 years before re-entering college in 2014 to complete my bachelor’s degree. I thought I might go into the business sector through Human Resources, but God called me to the field of Counseling, and I started my Masters program in August of 2018 through Grand Canyon University.
Women’s Ministry that integrates mental, spiritual, and emotional health by strengthening our connections, fostering discipleship, and prioritizing development is exciting and allows me to combine my passion with my training.
I am currently a Newlywed to my high school sweetheart, Brad, who had lost his wife to cancer.  We are navigating the twists and turns of midlife marriage and blending families with copious amounts of God’s grace, dark humor, and caffeine.

Bethany Gotcher

R/Youth Director
About Bethany

I grew up in Tucson, AZ surrounded by a family that loves Jesus so much. My parents were on staff with a ministry called Athletes in Action throughout my whole upbringing. Therefore, I saw the transformation that the Lord can do in someone’s life through discipleship, the Church and ministry at a very young age.

I gave my heart to the Lord when I was in middle school and I think this is when my heart for people and ministry started to become apparent. Throughout middle school and high school I was involved in my church youth group. Once I got to college I began to volunteer as a leader for Young Life College and served at various camps over the course of four years.

Attending GCU for my undergrad in Biblical Studies brought me to Phoenix, where I was introduced to Redemption Peoria in 2018. I have loved being a part of this church family and I truly feel at home here.

Youth ministry is so rich, full and brings me so much joy. I have a heart for discipleship and for the Truth of God’s Word to impact and transform the young men and women of our church family.

Trevor Mikulin

R/Youth Director
About Trevor

I grew up in Sacramento, California as the middle child of three. I was blessed to go to a youth group in junior high at a local church and that is where the Lord grabbed a hold of my heart. My faith and love for the Lord grew in my years of high school through godly leaders in my life, community, and church activities.

I moved to Phoenix in 2017 to study business at GCU. In college, my hunger to know the Lord grew deeper. I began to truly walk with Jesus. I spent all of my summers in college either working at a youth camp or interning at my local youth group, this is where my heart and call for youth ministry grew. I graduated from GCU in the spring of 2021 after four great years and felt that my time in Phoenix was not over. Shortly after that, I stepped into the role of helping lead the youth group.

I deeply desire to make disciples and teach them to obey all that He has commanded.

Denise Gusich

Community Events Coordinator
About Denise

Originally from Indiana my husband John and I met at Purdue University and married in 2004. After moving around a bit, we moved back to his home state of Arizona in 2006. My husband is very outnumbered as we now have 3 amazing, fast-growing daughters.

Reading is my everyday pastime and I can’t help myself; I seem to collect knowledge like I collect books! Along with books I love trying new things and traveling to new places. My favorite part of traveling is the research and planning beforehand! Learning about a new location’s history, finding the best places to go and the hidden gems gets me so excited.

I came to know Jesus at a young age. Whether it was Sunday school, Sunday night service, Wednesday services, Awana, potlucks…I can’t remember a time we were not active at church. Though I have considered myself a Christian for most of my life, Redemption was a big part in my spiritual growth. It has shown me a safe place to grow and allowed me a place to share the gifts God gave me.

Christie Beyeler

Guest Services Coordinator
About Christie

I have been married 38 years to my high school sweetheart, Bruce. God has blessed us with three sons, two daughter’s in love and 3 grandsons.

I was ten years old when I gave my life to Christ. It was the kindness and love of Jesus that drew me to Him. His continued lovingkindness, faithfulness and grace has kept me tethered to Him. His mercies are new every morning!

As greeters this same kindness is what we want to share with others who come to Redemption Peoria. The welcoming spirit of greeters was one of the first things that drew us to Redemption Peoria and is what I love about being on the greeting team. We want people who come to Redemption Peoria, from the moment they step on campus, to feel like family and be able to enjoy what God has in store for them through worship and the teaching of the Word.

Kyle Traber

Guest Services Coordinator
About Kyle

I married Ariela in August of 2019. We have been a part of Redemption Peoria since the inception of our relationship, as I first started attending in 2016 when I moved to Arizona from Virginia. It has been a blessing to walk alongside this community as countless people have poured into our lives and our relationship, and continue to do so. Ariela and I now have the opportunity to walk through life with those that God places in our home every week for our Redemption Community.

I grew up in a Christian household, going on frequent mission trips as my parents led the mission department in our church. As my heart for the Lord grew, I decided to attend Grand Canyon University, and ended up being blessed with the opportunity to work there full time post-graduation.

Redemption Peoria has always been a place of comfort, love, and acceptance for me, and I am blessed to help share that with others. As greeters, we get to assist in helping people feel welcome, loved, and seen as they come onto campus. As people enter our doors, whether it is their first time, or they’ve been here for years, we desire to welcome them into our family.

Joe & Victoria Bates

Foster Care, Kinship and Adoption Support Group Coordinators
About Joe

We both grew up here in Peoria and attended high school together at Sunrise Mountain High School. We started dating in high school and got married in 2009 while both attending Arizona State University.

Together, we have 6 forever children in our home. We have been blessed with biological, foster, and adopted children through the years. We lead Redemption Peoria’s Foster Care, Kinship, & Adoption Support Group and stay involved with other organizations supporting these causes. I (Joe) work as a financial advisor and Victoria works even harder as a stay-at-home mom with our large family.

I (Joe) was raised in a Christian home by believing parents. I am blessed to never have known a time in my life that I was not confident in my security as an adopted child of God. Victoria is a first generation believer and was saved and baptized in high school. Our hope and prayer is that every child would have a safe and loving home where they feel loved and secure, and where they would hear the Good News of the Gospel and of God’s love for them.

Roshan Amarasinghe

Production Director
About Roshan

I have been blessed with two wonderful boys who continually teach me about how much God loves us. Their interactions with others around them help me in gaining a perspective around what it means to be a child of God.

When I was younger, my family emigrated from Sri Lanka and I grew up in various places in Southern California. A little while later when I was in high school was when I first went to a Christian church and heard the Gospel. This was where I first saw the lives of people being transformed by the love of God and it was there where my eyes were first opened to Him.  Since then, He has continued to shape my character through each experience to the praise of His glory.

Having moved to Arizona about a decade ago, God has granted me the blessing of being in community at Redemption as well as the privilege of serving Him alongside other believers.  I look forward to the work the Lord will do in and around the West Valley through the believers He has placed on mission here.

On Being a Local Congregation of Redemption Church

REDEMPTION'S MULTI-CONGREGATIONAL STRUCTURE

Redemption church is multi-congregational in structure. This means that a central governing body provides structure, direction, and support for the ministry of each local congregation. Local congregations, like Redemption Peoria, are united and collaborative, but each has its own leadership and is free to contextualize its efforts. Click on the link below to learn more about the overall structure of Redemption.

REDEMPTION'S BELIEFS AND PRACTICES

We are a non-denominational church with a Reformed view of salvation. We believe that all of life is all for Jesus. We have been saved by grace through faith, which is itself a gift. That gift empowers us to be a transformed people who embody His redemptive power and participate in the renewal of all things.

REDEMPTION'S OUTWARD FOCUS

We are a sent people. As the church we are not called to turn inward and build our own kingdom. We are called to turn outward and give ourselves to the spread of the Gospel, the establishment of healthy local churches, and the multiplication of disciples. This is a call to invest beyond our church, beyond our tribe, and beyond our generation.

Community and Global Initiatives

We strongly believe that all members of the body of Christ are sent people, called to proclaim and demonstrate the gospel to the world. Therefore our community and global efforts should never be limited to structured programs. However, in response to the needs in our community, and God's heart for the nations, we do build global partnerships and facilitate opportunities to participate in God's mission of blessing the nations in Christ.
