Redemption Kids

What is Redemption Kids?

Redemption Kids is a safe and loving environment where kids will be cared for while learning how to follow Jesus. We strive to make it a place where parents will feel comfortable leaving their children in our care.

Redemption Kids is offered at every service for all children from birth through 5th grade.

Three times per year we have “Family Sunday”, where we invite the elementary age students to join us in the chapel for service.

We want to welcome all children, no matter where they are coming from, no matter what kind of morning they’ve had, week they’ve had, life they’ve had, whether neurotypical or not, with disabilities or not. Like Jesus, we want to say, “Let the little children come.” We not only want to welcome them, we want to provide a felt safe place for them physically, spiritually, and emotionally. We accomplish their physical safety through security, sanitation, policies and procedures. We accomplish their spiritual and emotional safety through consistency, a space that feels like home, and trauma informed ministry approaches.

HOME

We have designed our classrooms to feel more like home than a school classroom. We utilize home furnishings, plants, and lighting to create a peaceful and welcoming environment. We put kids’ names on cubbies and birthday bulletin boards, so they feel like they belong here.

CONSISTENCY

We ask our volunteers to serve every week for one service for one trimester (four months) at a time. This helps our volunteers and kids to really get to know each other and the kids can predict who will be at the door to greet them each week.

CURRICULUM

Our nursery, toddlers, and preschool classes use a curriculum called A Sure Foundation from Children Desiring God. It’s super simple and super repetitive. They learn the same lesson every week through the month, with varying crafts and activities, and then again every year. By the time they enter Kindergarten, they have heard the simple Biblical truths four times. Our elementary aged kids use a curriculum called The Gospel Project, which takes them all the way through the Bible over the course of three years. We include activities to engage all the learning styles, and stay o screens but for a three minute Bible Story video. By the time they graduate to the youth group, they will have gone through the Bible twice.

TRAUMA INFORMED MINISTRY

We believe that behavior is communication, and look to understand what feelings or experiences could be at play underneath or behind the behaviors. We strive to respond with compassion and accountability.

INCLUSION

We value our population that has disabilities and want to see them and elevate them as Jesus does. We want to minister to them more through a connection of relationship than a connection through a program. We strive to include all kids with disabilities in the classroom setting as much as is fitting. Each classroom is equipped with a sensory corner, and the curriculum and activities are accommodating to most needs. In addition, we provide a quiet library room as an alternative space to reset from any sensory overwhelm. If any disabilities require anything additional, we are more than happy to discuss any necessary accommodations.

VOLUNTEERING

Redemption Kids is made possible by volunteers who want to provide intentional, loving care for the children from our communities. Our volunteers go through a thorough screening process, which includes an application, background check, an interview, and age-appropriate training.
